WHO IS SITAG?

Saskatchewan Indian Training Assessment Group, Inc. (SITAG) is a Network of First Nation Employment Agencies

Established as a non-profit institute of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) in 1987, SITAG has since evolved to include Agencies from Tribal Councils, First Nations, and urban regions of the province. These Employment Agencies provide Labour Force Development (LFD) services for First Nations people in their local areas.

This structure provides many local points of service throughout the province. Each SITAG Employment Agency offers custom-designed and delivered employment and training services, including career counselling, employability skill building, training, and sponsorships for eligible Status First Nations people in Saskatchewan.

SITAG is governed by an appointed Board of Directors representing all 74 Saskatchewan First Nations. A regional coordination team supports the Board and the Agencies of the Network.

SASKATCHEWAN’S FIRST NATION LABOUR MARKET STRATEGY (FNLMS)

SITAG’s Network arrangement is unique and is driven by hallmarks of collectivity and local decision-making to plan, design, and implement employment and training services to First Nations people in their home communities.

The overall objectives of the FNLMS that guides all SITAG services are to:

  • Close the earning, employment and skills gaps between First Nation and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada
  • Promote lifelong learning, skills development, training, and sustainable employment
  • Provide culturally relevant support and services for First Nation employment seekers

Saskatchewan is a vast and varied province, and each Employment Agency of the SITAG Network has different opportunities and challenges. The Agencies have the autonomy to plan, design, deliver and implement their own local employment and training services to best serve their unique communities. Policies and priorities may differ across agencies.

LABOUR FORCE DEVELOPMENT (LFD)

SITAG LFD Employment Agencies provide local services across Saskatchewan for Canadian Status First Nations People to:

  • Receive individualized career plans and coaching
  • Obtain training and upskilling to improve employment opportunities
  • Find, get and start work

STRATEGIC INITIATIVES

Supporting Partnerships

Supporting Partnerships is a multi-year project aimed at strengthening collaboration and building local capacity. Its goal is to establish long-term partnerships that positively impact First Nations employment.

Supporting Partnerships includes regional common planning tables (called PROSPER: Promoting Opportunities through Strategic Planning & Employment Resources). Stakeholders include First Nation communities and employment agencies, provincial and municipal governments, Saskatchewan businesses, and non-profit organizations.

Indigenous Labour Market Inventory

The Indigenous Labour Market Inventory (ILMI) consists of SITAG Employment Agencies actively collecting labour market and skills information from First Nation individuals living across Saskatchewan.

ILMI is a pilot project that will:

Collect and analyze meaningful, reliable, and comprehensive data to provide valuable insights into the current employment and training needs of First Nations in Saskatchewan

Ensure that participating First Nations and employment agencies retain full ownership of the data they collect

Ensure that participating First Nations and employment agencies use the information collected to address employment gaps, support service delivery and create training plans to benefit their communities
